AETH Celebrates the Installation of Dr. Jessica Lugo as New Executive Director

San Juan, Puerto Rico - In a significant event held on January 28, 2024, the Association for Hispanic Theological Education (AETH) marked a milestone in its history with the installation of Dr. Jessica Lugo as Executive Director. The event, held at the First Baptist Church of Canóvanas, brought together prominent theological, academic and ecclesiastical leaders, reflecting the importance of AETH in Hispanic theological education.

The ceremony began with an atmosphere of celebration and community. The pastor of First Baptist Church of Canovanas welcomed the attendees, followed by inspiring words from AETH Board President Dr. Oscar Merlo. Dr. Elizabeth Conde-Frazier, outgoing executive director, provided a message of support and transition, highlighting AETH's continued commitment to educational excellence.

Dr. Justo Gonzalez and his wife Dr. Catherine Gonzalez, respected figures in Hispanic theology, attended the event adding prestige and depth to the event. Their presence emphasized the importance of continuity and growth in theological education across generations.

During the program, there were special swearing-in ceremonies and prayers, where Dr. Lugo officially assumed her new role. Her sermon, based on Matthew 8:1-4, reflected her vision and approach for the future of AETH, focusing on servant leadership and adaptation to contemporary challenges that build bridges that unite for responsible theological work.

The ceremony also included uplifting musical moments, reaffirming the role of music and art in the life of the church. Attendees participated in an interactive dialogue, sharing ideas and experiences, demonstrating AETH's collaborative approach. The event culminated with a call to action by Dr. Lugo, inviting those present and the community at large to actively participate in AETH's mission.
