La historia de la entrada triunfal de Jesús siempre la he escuchado junto a la invitación a que dejemos entrar a Jesús a nuestros corazones hoy o, como una historia que confirma que Jesús es el Mesías ya que cumple con profecías hechas por los profetas o sermones sobre la humildad de Jesús que nos sirve de ejemplo a nosotros. Sin embargo, este año el Espíritu me presenta esta historia de otra manera. Mi llamado es el de invocar a las iglesias y sus líderes a tomar un rol profético ante el capitolio de la Florida en pro de los que son los más pequeños, de los que Jesús en sus parábolas nos llama a no olvidar; estos son los inmigrantes o a los encarcelados u otros que sufren injusticias.
Cuando Jesús entra a Jerusalén yo veo a Jesús anunciando su reino. Su reino es un reino de sostenibilidad, de vida plena, de justicia y equidad para que todos tengan lo necesario para vivir vidas dignas. Frente a las injusticias del gobernador de Florida quién ha limitado los ministerios de la iglesias con centros de niños inmigrantes, revocando sus licencias del estado para proveerles servicios profesionales, y actualmente con su nuevo proyecto de ley busca también criminalizar a la comunidad indocumentada y a todos que le servimos el cual haría un delito grave con multas de 5,000 y sentencias de cárcel hasta 15 años, frente a su insistencia en implementar la pena de muerte sin misericordia a personas que han sido victimas de abuso o que no son capaces mentalmente de entender sus actos, frente a la forma en que le quitan las partidas económicas necesarias para brindar educación de calidad en vecindarios pobres, Jesús desea entrar anunciando los valores del reino y denunciando, como hizo con los cambiadores de moneda, a las injusticias de estos.
La iglesia evangélica de Florida está haciendo eso mismo, marchando, invocando la presencia de Dios, protestando, teniendo conversaciones con los legisladores de ambos partidos sobre estos asuntos. Estamos levantando nuestra voz profética para hacer lugar para las justicias del reino- esto es simbólico de ponerle las palmas a Jesús para que pase, para que su reino entre en medio de nosotros y sea hecha su voluntad en la tierra como en el cielo.
Vemos este momento como el momento de declarar que Jesús es señor de señores sobre todos los poderes de la muerte y de la destrucción. Hoy Jesús nos invita a su gran desfile que anuncia su reino entre nosotros (Lucas 17). Únete a algún grupo o ve creándolo para anunciar su reino y así denunciar los poderes y potestades de la muerte. Únete al desfile de Jesús. ¡Hosana, bendito el que viene en el nombre de Jesús!
I have always heard the story of Jesus’ triumphal entry together with the invitation to let Jesus into our hearts today or as a story that confirms that Jesus is the Messiah as it fulfills prophecies made by the prophets or sermons on the humility of Jesus that serves as an example to us. However, this year, the Spirit presents this story to me in another way. My call is to invoke the churches and their leaders to take a prophetic role before the Florida Capitol in favor of those who are the least of those that Jesus in his parables calls us not to forget; these are the “least of these,” immigrants or those who are imprisoned or suffer injustices.
When Jesus enters Jerusalem, I see Jesus announcing his kingdom. His kingdom is a kingdom of sustainability, of life abundant, of justice and equity for all so that everyone can have what it takes to live a dignified life. Faced with the injustices of the governor of Florida who has limited the ministries of church centers housing immigrant children by revoking their state license to provide professional services and currently continues to limit our work by criminalizing immigrants and those of us who serve them by making it a felony to transport or shelter undocumented immigrants with $5,000 penalty and up to 15 years in jail, faced with his insistence on implementing the death penalty without mercy for people who have been victims of abuse or that they are not mentally capable of understanding their actions, faced with the way in which they take away the necessary economic means to provide quality education in poor neighborhoods, Jesus wants to enter announcing the values of the kingdom and denouncing injustices as he did with the money changers in the temple.
The Latina Florida Evangelical Church is doing the same thing. We are marching, protesting, and having conversations with legislators from both sides of the aisle on these issues. We are raising our prophetic voice to make room for the justices of the kingdom- this is symbolic of waving our palm branches for Jesus to pass by, so that his kingdom may enter among us, and his will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
We see this moment as the moment to declare that Jesus is lord of lords over all the powers of death and destruction. Today Jesus invites us to his great parade that announces his kingdom among us (Luke 17). Join a group or create one to announce his kingdom and thus denounce the powers and principalities of death. Join the Jesus parade. Welcome in Christ and his reign. Hosana, blessed is he who comes in the name of Jesus!
